Fourth of July Trip 2014 (part 3)
Today we drove over to Veterans Falls in a nice quiet Marinette county park. Then we drove over to Marinette proper to spend some time at the beach. This was the same beach we visited on December 30, 2013 (I'm adding a picture from that day for comparison). The water was chilly today, but not frozen!

Fourth of July Trip 2014 (part 2)
Saturday We did more UTV rides, then we innertubed a short stretch of the Oconto River and visited Slippery Rock. In the evening we saw a show by the Crivitz Ski Cats and fireworks. Today after church we went to Green Bay to visit Bay Beach Amusement Park, my Grandma Sommerfeld, and Happy Joe's Pizza.

Fourth of July Trip 2014 (part 1)
On Wednesday, we drove up to my parents house in northern Wisconsin, arriving in the evening. On Thursday, we worked on running electrical wiring underground to their shed and learned to drive their UTV. Today, we explored the big rock outcrop behind their house, with its 1.5 billion year old bedrock, northwest oriented glacial scratches, and blueberries. We visited Bagley Rapids, but the current was too strong for us spend any serious time in the water. We also did more fun UTV rides.

Chiefs Game
Friday night was WCIC's annual Faith and Family night at the Peoria Chiefs game. We had fun attending with the Blands. The Chiefs had a good double play, and stole home successfully, but still lost 2-3. Afterward there was fireworks and then a concert by Royal Tailor. They were good and the kids really enjoyed them, but they were also really loud. I must be getting old. On Saturday, Karen the Birthday Girl and Kris and Katie visited the Kaeders in Madison to watch the Rhythm and Booms Fireworks from their boat.

Visiting Karen's New Classroom
Karen will be teaching 4-year-olds at St. Mark's School this year. She got to start moving stuff around in her classroom. Some plants in our garden are starting to take off.

Fathers Day Hike
Along with going out to eat, we celebrated Father's Day by going for a hike at Jubilee College State Park. We had fun, even in the really muddy spots. We are surprised that we did not encounter any mosquitoes or wood ticks - in fact, we have not seen much of either of these around here this year. By contrast, from what we have heard, Wisconsin is still swarming with mosquitoes. In other news:
- Karen has accepted a teaching position for this fall at St. Marks Elementary School
- Our pet rabbit of 8 years, Bugs, died last Tuesday night
- Karen and I are working our way into the 21st century by acquiring our first iPhones yesterday
