Central Texas had one of its occasional big rains last night. Officially, we got 2.7 inches (new record for May 10) but based on the coffee mug that filled up on the roof of the minivan we got at least 3.2 inches at our apartment - mostly in an hour or two. When the storm was about an hour away the winds and the low level clouds moved westward toward the storm. Not much hail (we did not see any), and the 15 tornadoes in Texas stayed mostly to the south. The many flood control structures in the area handled things well - it was fun watching the water rush under our "moat bridge" - the metal plate over the gap in the sidewalk in front of the apartment door. Had a really busy week in the lab prepping for a co-presentation at a joint research group meeting this morning, which went OK.
