Twelve Favorite Pix of 2013

So many to choose from!
1) Me on a "scooter" as we dealt with a broken bone in my foot from last December until about April.
2) Posing with family in northern Wisconsin in a snowy March as my parents moved to their house near Mountain, WI.
3) Kristine after her Confirmation posing with Fr. Dave, Bishop Jenke, Melissa Bland (her sponsor) and unborn Nathaniel Bland (a godson-to-be).  Kris also traveled to Oklahoma on a missions trip this year, graduated from 8th grade, and was in the school play.
4) Flooded steps at the Peoria riverfront showing the high water mark from the record flooding along the Illinois River.
5) Throwing light sticks at dusk of the summer solstice at the Blands' house.
6) Fireworks over Peoria as viewed from St. Francis Hospital.
7) Tailgating outside Packer Family Night with family.  The Packers went on to win their division in the 2013 season.
8) Hanging out with a mermaid at the beach at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
9) Katie after a soccer game. She was also involved with tumbling and Girl Scouts. She is all recovered from her mouth surgery during the summer.
10) A view of Rocky Glen Park (not far from our house) with fall foliage.
11) Hunkering down and praying during Sunday School at St. Anthony's Church in Bartonville during a tornado outbreak.  Our location was spared, but two of the children in the picture had their house severely damaged by a long-track F4 twister.
12) Karen posing with her father and her girls. She graduated with a BS in Early Childhood Education (her second college degree), capping off years of hard work.

Cold times

The weather has turned pretty cold in NE Wisconsin.  It was minus ten at about 10 pm last night.  Yesterday we drove over to Door County to hang out with Karen's family and watch the last Packer game of the football season.  They squeaked a win out over the Bears.  Today we visited Marinette, WI, and Menominee, MI.  We did a little shopping, and went to a beach today along Lake Michigan. I picked up a few (zebra mussel) shells. We walked out on the ice a little before the 3 degree weather sent us back to the car.

Another Snowshoe Outing

Katie had fun playing with some dinosaurs that I used to play with. We had fun snowshoeing, but my parents' dog did not like the wet snow sticking to her fur on her legs.

Winter Up Nort'

We had a snowshoe outing this morning, and a nice dinner at Waubee Lodge at tonight.  "Waubee" and "Waupee" are somewhat common names in this northeastern Wisconsin area, which according to one Internet source might be derived from a Potawatomi prefix meaning "white".  The area is certainly white now!

Day after Christmas

Christmas was low-key and even somewhat relaxing. :*) It was fun to see one of the local stations showing a fireplace film loop and playing Christmas music, but I kept our own fireplace going. Today we drove up to Wisconsin to visit family. There is still a bit of tornado damage that needs to be cleaned up. There is a bit more snow (and ice fishing shanties) up here.

Christmas Eve

Most of the snow from our 6" fall has melted, and this weekend's ice and light snow made some odd ice patterns, but it has been a mostly not-white Christmas Eve.  We might get a little more snow tonight.  Tonight we all went to an earlier Christmas Mass, where Kris sang and played guitar, but now Kris (and Karen) is back at the later Mass to sing some more.  The ladies all made a birthday cake for Jesus, too. Have a Blessed Christmas, and I recommend the following Bible passages: Isaiah 9:2-7 and Luke 2:1-21.

'Twas the Sunday Before Christmas

St Anthony's had their Jesse Tree program this morning.  Attendance was way down, likely due to illness, the ice storm, and proximity to Christmas, but it went well.  Later on we watched football at our house and swapped a few presents.

Congratulations, Karen!

Karen graduated from Bradley University today with a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education.  She also has a Bachelors degree in Human Development from UW-Green Bay from 1993.  We are so proud of her!  We also impressed at all the people who made it to our house to celebrate the event in the midst of an ice storm!
