Lakeview museum and looking back: Beijing hutong

Yesterday was the one month anniversary of getting Katie. Today the Bradley Demo Crew had an event at Lakeview Museum, so Katie tagged along and had her first visit to the museum. She enjoyed it.

After leaving the Forbidden City back on January 11, we took a rickshaw ride though a hutong area in Beijing. These are historic neighborhoods that can hundreds of years old, and are preserved from major renovations. We learned how the house complexes have traditionally had courtyards with wells and different extended family members traditionally slept in different areas around the courtyard. We also learned how you can sometimes look at the doorways of the house and read their layout to figure out the social status and the career area of the family. We visited one of the members of one of the houses for a little while. Quaint housing, but not the way I would want to live. On the way back to the hotel we got a look at the China Central Television (CCTV) building, with its odd shape and hole in the middle. That night we ventured to a McDonald's. Unfortunately the chicken sandwiches we ordered off the picture menu were spicy chicken sandwiches and a bit too spicy for our tastes.
