Looking back: the jade factory

We got nearly 6 inches of snow today. Kris's school was cancelled today, but Bradley was still in session.
OK, so continuing the adventures of our first full day in China, after the visit to the Great Wall we returned to Beijing. We went to a jade gallery for lunch and a look around. The food was OK - it was pretty familiar Chinese cuisine. The jade art was fantastic, ranging from "puzzle balls" (see: http://www.radio86.co.uk/explore-learn/culture/997/chinese-puzzle-balls-a-dazzling-example-of-superior-craftsmanship), to Chinese cabbage sculptures (the word for that sounds like the word for wealth so the statues are supposed to bring wealth, I think), to jade boats. On the way back from the gallery to the hotel we drove near the "bird's nest" stadium and the aquatic center used in the 2008 Summer Olympics. Kris was especially excited to see that.
